Estatura o altura corporal; edad, madurez o etapa de la vida
Una palabra que mantiene en tensión creativa dos ideas relacionadas pero distintas: la estatura física y el transcurso de la edad. Cuando Lucas dice que Jesús 'crecía en estatura' (Lc 2:52), se refiere a su altura corporal; cuando Zaqueo es 'pequeño de estatura' (Lc 19:3), es su baja estatura la que lo impulsa a subir al sicómoro. En Juan 9:21, 23 el mismo vocablo significa 'de edad': el ciego de nacimiento tiene edad suficiente para hablar por sí mismo. El enigma de Mt 6:27 y Lc 12:25 gira sobre esta ambigüedad: ¿habla Jesús de agregar altura o de alargar la vida? El español distingue 'estatura' de 'edad', pero el griego reúne ambos sentidos en un solo término.

En Juan 9:21, 23 los padres del ciego de nacimiento dicen 'tiene edad (ἡλικίαν ἔχει), pregúntenle a él', refiriéndose a la mayoría de edad legal. Hebreos 11:11 dice que Sara recibió fuerza para concebir 'fuera del tiempo de la edad', aludiendo a que había superado la edad fértil. 3×
