Zeus, chief god of the Greek pantheon
The king of the Olympian gods, Zeus was the supreme deity in Greco-Roman paganism, associated with sky, thunder, and sovereign power. In Acts 14, when Paul heals a lame man at Lystra, the crowds identify Barnabas as Zeus (the more dignified, silent deity) and Paul as Hermes (Zeus's messenger, since Paul did the talking). The priest of Zeus even brings oxen to sacrifice to them (14:13). Paul and Barnabas tear their clothes in horror, insisting they are mere mortals pointing to the living God who made heaven and earth—a sharp contrast to the pagan pantheon.

Sentidos
1. sense 1 Both references occur in Acts 14:12-13 during the Lystra incident, where pagan religiosity misidentifies the apostles as gods incarnate. The scene underscores the clash between biblical monotheism and polytheistic paganism, while also revealing the Lycaonian crowd's theological framework: they interpret powerful deeds through the lens of their divine hierarchy, with Zeus at the top. The apostles' violent rejection of this honor emphasizes the chasm between the true Creator and the false gods of the nations.
