V-PIM/P-3S  |  3× in 1 sense
please, be pleasing to; meet with approval or satisfaction
This verb means to be well-pleasing or acceptable to someone, to meet with favor or approval. In the New Testament it appears exclusively in Hebrews, describing pleasing God through faith. Enoch's translation is evidence he pleased God (11:5), faith is necessary to please God (11:6), and certain sacrifices are pleasing to God (13:16). The term emphasizes what satisfies or delights God.

Senses
1. sense 1 Translators use pleasing language: Spanish agradar ('please'), German wohlgefallen ('be well-pleasing'). Hebrews 11:5 states that before Enoch's translation 'he was commended as having pleased God.' Hebrews 11:6 declares the principle: 'without faith it is impossible to please him,' establishing faith as essential to divine approval. Hebrews 13:16 encourages generosity: 'for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.' The verb focuses on what brings satisfaction or delight to God, with faith as the fundamental prerequisite.
