Este verbo significa poner manos a la obra, intentar o emprender algo. El uso clásico enfatiza el inicio de un trabajo, la tentativa o el esfuerzo por lograr un objetivo. En el Nuevo Testamento aparece en contextos de empresas significativas: la cuidadosa composición del Evangelio de Lucas (Lucas 1:1), los oponentes que intentaron disputar con Esteban (Hechos 9:29) y los exorcistas judíos que pretendieron usar el nombre de Jesús (Hechos 19:13).
