1. relate, explain, make known — The sole NT sense of ἐξηγέομαι (middle deponent), meaning to narrate, relate, explain, or make known in detail. In classical Greek the word had a broader range including 'lead' and 'prescribe,' but in the NT it is used exclusively in its narrative/expository sense. Occurrences include: the two Emmaus disciples relating what happened on the road (Luke 24:35), Peter explaining his vision to Cornelius's messengers (Acts 10:8), Barnabas and Paul describing the signs and wonders God had done among the Gentiles (Acts 15:12), James summarizing Simeon's report (Acts 15:14), Paul relating in detail what God had done among the Gentiles through his ministry (Acts 21:19), and the theologically pregnant statement that the only-begotten Son has 'made known' (revealed/exegeted) the Father (John 1:18). All inflectional forms -- aorist indicative ἐξηγήσατο, imperfect ἐξηγοῦντο/ἐξηγεῖτο, aorist participle ἐξηγησάμενος, present participle ἐξηγουμένων -- express this same core meaning.
