Esclavo, siervo — persona sujeta al servicio de un amo; usado literalmente de esclavos y figuradamente del servicio devoto a Dios o a Cristo
δοῦλος designa a una persona que pertenece a otra: un esclavo o siervo. A diferencia del español «sirviente», que puede implicar empleo voluntario, δοῦλος en el mundo grecorromano significaba propiedad legal — una persona sin derechos autónomos. El Nuevo Testamento emplea este término contundente en ambas direcciones: Jesús cuenta parábolas con esclavos domésticos literales (Mt 18:23-35; Lc 17:7-10), y Pablo, Santiago, Pedro y Judas se identifican cada uno como δοῦλος de Cristo (Ro 1:1; Fil 1:1; Stg 1:1; 2 P 1:1; Jud 1). La paradoja es deliberada: la sumisión total al Señor divino se presenta como la libertad más alta.
