Glory, splendor, radiant majesty; the visible manifestation of divine excellence and honor
In classical Greek, doxa meant merely 'opinion' or 'reputation,' but the Septuagint transformed it into the standard rendering of Hebrew kavod — the weighty, luminous presence of God. By the New Testament, doxa carries the full freight of divine radiance: the shekinah glory that filled the temple, the splendor revealed at the Transfiguration (Matt 17:2), and the eternal magnificence to which believers are destined (Rom 8:18). Every major language renders it with a single dominant term — 'gloria,' 'gloire,' 'Herrlichkeit,' 'mahima' — reflecting its unified semantic weight.

Senses
1. glory, splendor, divine radiance The radiant magnificence, honor, and sovereign splendor of God made visible or acknowledged by creatures. Spanning 167 occurrences, it covers the glory of God's kingdom (Matt 6:13), the transfigured Christ (Luke 9:32), the hope of future glorification (Rom 5:2), and doxological praise (Phil 4:20). The cross-linguistic convergence — Spanish 'gloria,' Arabic 'مجد,' Korean '영광,' Hindi 'महिमा' — witnesses to a remarkably stable semantic core across the world's theological vocabularies. 167×
