Senses
1. pervert, twist, distort — To twist away from what is right, to pervert or corrupt morally and doctrinally. Covers both the stative perfect participle describing a generation as 'perverted' (Matt 17:17, Luke 9:41, Phil 2:15) and active forms describing the act of perverting or misleading (Luke 23:2 perverting the nation, Acts 13:8 and 13:10 perverting the ways of the Lord, Acts 20:30 speaking distorted things). All translations converge: Arb multawin (twisted/crooked), Heb me'uvvat (twisted) for the perfect and massit/le'avvet (to incite/distort) for the active, Kor gubeun (crooked) and gulgjeolhaneun (distorting), Spa pervertida/pervirtiendo, Fra pervertir. The 'turn away' sense in Acts 13:8 (Heb lehatot, Kor dollirryeogo, Spa apartar) represents the same perversion concept applied specifically to turning someone from the faith, not a genuinely distinct meaning. All share the semantic domain of moral or doctrinal corruption. 7×
