En los Evangelios describe a Barrabas, el preso notable liberado en la Pascua (Mt 27:15-16; Mr 15:6). En Hechos, Pablo y Silas son prisioneros en Filipos cuya adoracion nocturna desencadena un terremoto (Hch 16:25-27). Pablo luego adopta la identidad de 'prisionero de Cristo Jesus' (Ef 3:1; Flm 1:1), transformando un termino de verguenza en uno de honor apostolico.
