δειλός describe una disposición de cobardía o temor: el fracaso del ánimo ante el peligro o lo divino. Jesús reprende a sus discípulos como δειλοί cuando se aterran durante la tempestad en el mar de Galilea (Mt 8:26; Mr 4:40), cuestionando por qué carecen de fe. En Hebreos 12:28, el sentido afín de reverencia sobrecogedora aparece en el contexto del culto. De modo aún más contundente, Apocalipsis 21:8 sitúa a los cobardes en primer lugar entre los condenados al lago de fuego, junto con homicidas e idólatras, una advertencia solemne contra la timidez carente de fe.
