Gomorra; una de las ciudades de la llanura destruida por juicio divino, sinónimo de maldad extrema.
Nombre propio de una de las ciudades de la llanura del Jordán destruida junto con Sodoma por fuego y azufre (Gn 19). En el NT funciona casi exclusivamente como arquetipo de juicio divino catastrófico. Jesús invoca a Sodoma y Gomorra para advertir a las ciudades inhospitalarias que su suerte será peor (Mt 10:15; Mr 6:11). Pablo cita la referencia de Isaías a Gomorra respecto a la casi total destrucción de Israel (Ro 9:29). Tanto Pedro como Judas señalan su destrucción como ejemplo de advertencia para los impíos (2 P 2:6; Jud 1:7). El nombre se transliterada de forma consistente como 'Gomorra' en español.

1. Ciudad destruida por Dios — La ciudad de Gomorra, destruida por Dios junto con Sodoma como juicio definitivo. En el NT siempre aparece emparejada con Sodoma en contextos de advertencia: Jesús la invoca contra pueblos inhospitalarios (Mt 10:15; Mr 6:11), Pablo cita Isaías 1:9 sobre la preservación de un remanente (Ro 9:29), y Pedro y Judas la presentan como paradigma de castigo para los impíos. 5×
