En los Sinopticos se refiere al libro de los Salmos (Lucas 20:42; Hechos 1:20), al libro de Moises (Marcos 12:26) y al registro genealogico de Jesus (Mateo 1:1). Apocalipsis transforma la imagen en un rollo celestial sellado con siete sellos que solo el Cordero puede abrir (Apocalipsis 5:1-5). Las traducciones son notablemente uniformes: espanol 'libro', hindi 'पुस्तक', arabe 'سِفر/كِتاب', coreano '책' y suajili 'kitabu/vitabu' (con el clasico par de clases bantu ki-/vi-).
