Principio, origen; gobernante o principado cósmico; dominio o cargo de autoridad; esquina o extremo
Uno de los sustantivos de mayor carga teológica del Nuevo Testamento. Juan abre su Evangelio con ἐν ἀρχῇ — «en el principio» — en eco deliberado de Génesis 1:1, anclando a Cristo en el orden precreacional. Pablo emplea la misma palabra para los «principados» (ἀρχαί) invisibles del ámbito espiritual (Ro 8:38; Col 1:16), un desplazamiento del tiempo a la jerarquía que el español capta alternando entre «principio» y «principados». Un tercer uso abstrae aún más hacia el «dominio» o la esfera de la autoridad misma (1 Co 15:24). Finalmente, Hechos 10:11 reutiliza la palabra concretamente para las «puntas» del lienzo de la visión de Pedro.

2. gobernante, principado — Sentido cósmico-jerárquico (7 ocurrencias): gobernantes sobrenaturales o políticos, frecuentemente en plural ἀρχαί designando poderes angélicos o demoníacos en el orden invisible. Las listas paulinas de «principados y potestades» (Ro 8:38; Ef 6:12; Col 1:16) hacen de este un término clave en la angelología neotestamentaria. Se distingue del sentido 2 al enfocarse en la autoridad misma y no en los seres que la ostentan.
