Atenas (Ἀθῆναι), la célebre ciudad de la antigua Ática, aparece cuatro veces en el NT, todas vinculadas al segundo viaje misionero de Pablo. Lucas registra la llegada de Pablo (Acts 17:15), su indignación ante la idolatría de la ciudad (Acts 17:16) y su partida hacia Corinto (Acts 18:1). Pablo mismo recuerda haber enviado a Timoteo de regreso desde Atenas (1 Thess 3:1). La forma plural (como Θῆβαι) refleja la convención antigua. Todas las traducciones conservan el nombre propio con mínima adaptación.
