N-proper-fs  |  7× in 1 sense
Taanach, an ancient Canaanite city in the Jezreel Valley near Megiddo, assigned to the tribe of Manasseh.
Taanach (modern Tell Ta'annek) was a fortified Canaanite city situated in the Great Plain about four and a half miles south-southeast of Megiddo. It appears in conquest lists, tribal allotments, and the Song of Deborah, where 'the kings came and fought at Taanach, by the waters of Megiddo' (Judg 5:19). Assigned to Manasseh though located within Issachar's territory, it reflects the complex realities of Israel's incomplete settlement of Canaan.

Senses
1. Taanach (place name) The proper noun designating the Canaanite city Taanach in the Jezreel Valley. All seven occurrences refer to the same location. Egyptian records spell it Ta-'a-na-k, confirming its antiquity. It appears in Joshua's conquest list (12:21), Manasseh's allotment (17:11; 21:25), the note that Canaanites were not driven out (Judg 1:27), and memorably in the victory hymn of Deborah (Judg 5:19). The consistent transliteration across English, Spanish, and French ('Taanach/Taanac') reflects the stability of this well-attested toponym.
