Tiglath-pileser (Assyrian king)
Tiglath-pileser III, king of Assyria (745-727 BCE), one of the most powerful Neo-Assyrian emperors who conquered much of the Levant. The name appears in two orthographic traditions: (1) the Kings tradition תִּגְלַת פִּלְאֶסֶר (2 Kgs 15:29, 16:7, 16:10), closer to the Akkadian Tukulti-apil-Esharra 'my trust is in the son of Esharra,' and (2) the Chronicles tradition תִּלְּגַת פִּלְנְאֶסֶר (1 Chr 5:6, 5:26; 2 Chr 28:20), a variant spelling. German Tiglath-Pileser. All five auto-clusters represent the same individual, split because the compound name was tokenized into its two parts in different books. 11×
