Ta' designates the small chambers or alcoves built into the gate structures of Ezekiel's visionary temple and, in one earlier reference, the guard room of Solomon's palace (1 Kgs 14:28). Of its 17 occurrences, 15 cluster within Ezekiel 40, where the prophet measures three chambers on each side of every gate. BDB notes the word may be an Aramaism, cognate with Aramaic tawan and Arabic thawa ('to dwell'), pointing to a lodging-place or enclosed room. The multilingual glosses — Spanish 'camaras,' German 'Kammer,' English 'chambers' — uniformly reflect this architectural sense.
