Satisfied, sated, full — whether with food, favor, years, or trouble; describes complete fulfillment or surfeit
This adjective captures the state of being thoroughly satisfied or filled to capacity. In its most positive usage, it describes patriarchs who died 'full of days' — Abraham (Gen 25:8), Isaac (Gen 35:29), David (1 Chr 29:28), and Job (Job 42:17) — signaling a life brought to rich completion. Deuteronomy 33:23 blesses Naphtali as 'full of the favor of the LORD.' Yet the same word carries a darker edge: in Job 10:15 and 14:1, one can be 'sated with trouble' or 'surfeited with disgrace,' while Proverbs 27:7 observes that a sated appetite spurns even honey.
Senses
1. satisfied, full, sated — The state of being fully satisfied or sated, encompassing physical fullness with food (1 Sam 2:5; Prov 27:7), figurative abundance of divine favor (Deut 33:23, 'full of the blessing of the LORD'), the peaceful completion of a long life expressed as 'full of days' (Gen 25:8; 35:29; 1 Chr 29:28; Job 42:17), and negatively, surfeit with trouble or shame (Job 10:15; 14:1). Spanish 'saciados' and German 'satt' both capture this core idea of thorough satiation that can shade from blessing to burden. 10×
