A denominative Piel verb derived from qen ('nest'), describing the act of building a nest or settling securely in a sheltered place. Literally, it pictures birds nesting in treetops — the stork in the cypresses (Ps 104:17), or birds among the great cedar's branches (Ezek 31:6). Figuratively, it carries a tone of false security: Jeremiah mocks Judah's elite who are 'nested in the cedars' (Jer 22:23), and Moab is urged to nest like a dove on the cliff-face to escape coming judgment (Jer 48:28). Isaiah's eerie depiction of the arrow-snake nesting in Edom's ruins (Isa 34:15) transforms the image from comfort to desolation.
