1. Kenite (gentilic) — Gentilic adjective denoting a member of the Kenite clan, descendants of Cain/Qayin, a semi-nomadic people associated with metalworking and allied with Israel. Heber the Kenite separated from the main body and dwelt in northern Israel near Kedesh (Judg 4:11, 17; 5:24). Saul warned the Kenites to depart from among the Amalekites before battle (1 Sam 15:6). David sent spoils to the Kenites in the Negeb (1 Sam 27:10, 30:29). The Kenites of Jabez are listed among scribal families (1 Chr 2:55). Also used in the Abrahamic covenant land-promise list (Gen 15:19). Rendered Arabic al-Qayni (الْقَيْنِيّ), Korean gen-saram (겐사람), Spanish ceneo/kenita/quenita. Variant transliterations (Keini, Kenite, Qenite) in English all represent the same Hebrew gentilic qeni. 13×
