Issaron is a technical unit of dry measure equaling one-tenth of an ephah (roughly 2.3 liters), used almost exclusively in the Priestly cultic legislation. Its 33 occurrences are confined to Exodus, Leviticus, and Numbers, always specifying the quantity of fine flour (solet) required for the grain offering (minhah) that accompanied animal sacrifices. A single issaron accompanies a lamb (Num 15:4), two accompany a ram (Num 15:6), and three accompany a bull (Num 15:9) — a graded system that scales the cereal portion to the size of the burnt offering. The term appears extensively in Numbers 28-29, where the festival calendar prescribes exact quantities for daily, Sabbath, new moon, and annual offerings. The Septuagint renders it dekaton tou oiphi ('a tenth of an ephah'), and Spanish 'decima,' French 'dixieme,' and German 'Zehntel' all confirm a fractional-measure meaning.
