Ezion-geber was an important port city located at the northern tip of the Gulf of Aqaba, near the town of Elath. It served first as a station during Israel's wilderness wanderings (Num 33:35-36; Deut 2:8) and later as Solomon's shipbuilding and trading port for voyages to Ophir (1 Kgs 9:26). Jehoshaphat's ill-fated fleet was wrecked there (1 Kgs 22:48). Multilingual renderings consistently transliterate the compound name, though with phonetic variation reflecting each language's conventions.
