Jeremiah uses this feminine form to describe the sound of invading horses—their snorting heard all the way from Dan in Israel's far north. The prophet depicts the Babylonian invasion as an overwhelming cavalry force, and the sound of war horses becomes a harbinger of doom. This auditory image creates terror: before the enemy is even visible, their horses' breathing announces catastrophe. It's the same root as Job's war horse description, but in Jeremiah it signals judgment.
