booty, plunder, spoil (what is seized in war or violence)
This feminine noun denotes plunder or spoil taken by violence or conquest. Second Kings 21:14 warns that Judah will become 'booty and prey' to enemies; Zephaniah 1:13 describes possessions becoming 'plunder' in divine judgment. The term appears in prophetic oracles of reversal, where those who plundered will themselves be plundered (Jeremiah 30:16). Isaiah 42:22-24 uses the word to describe Israel's humiliation: they have become 'prey' and 'plunder' because of sin. The vocabulary of seizure and spoil pervades prophetic judgment literature, turning the logic of conquest inside out.
