Occurring only in Ezekiel 11:5, this feminine plural noun literally means 'things that come up' or 'ascents.' The prophet uses it metaphorically for the thoughts or plans that arise in people's minds—the mental formations that 'come up' in consciousness. God declares that He knows 'the things that come up in your spirit,' i.e., your inmost thoughts and schemes, whether righteous or wicked.
