N-msc  |  8× in 1 sense
Lodging place, inn, place of overnight rest; a temporary shelter for travelers or an encampment for the night.
This noun designates a lodging place or inn -- any location where travelers stop for the night. It appears memorably in the Joseph narrative, where his brothers discover their returned silver at the inn (Gen 42:27; 43:21), and in the mysterious night encounter at the lodging place on Moses' journey back to Egypt (Exod 4:24). Joshua uses it for Israel's overnight camp at the Jordan crossing (Josh 4:3, 8). Jeremiah longingly wishes for a 'lodging place of travelers' in the wilderness (Jer 9:2). German Herberge and Spanish alojamiento both evoke the rustic simplicity of these ancient wayside shelters.

Senses
1. lodging place, inn A lodging place, inn, or overnight encampment for travelers. Used of the inn where Joseph's brothers opened their sacks (Gen 42:27; 43:21), the mysterious lodging place where God confronted Moses (Exod 4:24), Israel's overnight camp during the Jordan crossing (Josh 4:3, 8), the Assyrian army's encampment (Isa 10:29), the remote reaches of Lebanon as a figurative camping-ground of Assyrian conquest (2 Kgs 19:23), and Jeremiah's wished-for 'wayfarer's lodge' in the desert (Jer 9:2). Spanish alojamiento ('lodging'), German Herberge ('inn'), and French lieu de logement all point to a temporary, often rustic shelter for the night.
