A feminine plural noun denoting counsels, plans, or deliberations. It carries a predominantly negative sense in prophetic and wisdom literature, referring to the stubborn schemes of those who reject God's way. Jeremiah pairs it with 'the stubbornness of their evil heart' (Jer 7:24), and Hosea warns that Israel's own counsels will consume them (Hos 11:6). Yet Proverbs 22:20 uses it positively for sound counsel alongside knowledge. The word thus spans the full moral range from wise counsel to rebellious scheming, with context determining the valence.
