taught, trained; disciple

Senses
1. taught, trained; disciple An adjective from the root lamad ('to learn/teach') meaning one who has been taught, trained, or accustomed to something. Used in two closely related semantic ranges: (1) As 'disciple, pupil' -- one who has been instructed, especially by God: Isaiah's disciples in whom the testimony is sealed (Isa 8:16), the tongue of disciples given by the Lord GOD to sustain the weary (Isa 50:4, twice in one verse), and all the children of Zion who shall be taught of the LORD (Isa 54:13). (2) As 'accustomed, habituated' -- describing ingrained behavior learned through repetition: a wild donkey accustomed to the wilderness (Jer 2:24), and those accustomed to doing evil who cannot change their ways (Jer 13:23). Both uses derive from the same core meaning of having been shaped by instruction or repeated experience, differing only in whether the training is positive (discipleship) or negative (habitual vice).
