Loops — textile fasteners on the tabernacle curtains that receive the clasps
A technical term for the fabric loops sewn along the edges of the tabernacle curtains, designed to receive the gold and bronze clasps (קְרָסִים) that joined the curtain sets together. Every one of its thirteen occurrences falls within the tabernacle construction instructions of Exodus 26 and their fulfillment account in Exodus 36. The loops come in matched sets of fifty, carefully aligned so that corresponding loops face each other and the clasps unite the dwelling into a single structure (Exod 26:4–5, 10–11). Spanish 'lazos,' French 'lacets,' and German 'Schlaufen' all point to the same concrete fastening device — a simple but essential element of sacred architecture.
Senses
1. loops (textile fasteners) — Loops (לֻלָאֹת), the textile fasteners attached to the edges of tabernacle curtain panels. Exclusively a Priestly construction term, all thirteen occurrences appear in the instructions for and execution of the tabernacle (Exod 26:4–5, 10–11; 36:11–12, 17). Sets of fifty loops on each curtain edge align with matching loops on the adjacent panel, receiving gold or bronze clasps to join the sections into one unified structure. The Akkadian cognate lu-lu ('loop, noose') confirms the concrete meaning. 13×
