Prep-m | N-msc  |  5× in 1 sense
Log; a small liquid measure (approximately half a liter), used exclusively for oil in the leper purification ritual.
A masculine noun denoting a small unit of liquid measure, equal to one-twelfth of a hin or roughly half a liter. The log appears exclusively in Leviticus 14, the detailed ritual for purifying a healed leper, where it always measures olive oil (Lev 14:10, 12, 15, 21, 24). The priest takes a log of oil, sprinkles some before the Lord, and anoints the purified person. Its restricted context—five occurrences all in one chapter—makes it one of the most specialized terms in biblical metrology. The Aramaic cognate lugga and Syriac lagga confirm its antiquity as a standard small measure across Semitic cultures.

Senses
1. sense 1 A unit of liquid measure (approximately one-twelfth of a hin, or about half a liter), used exclusively for measuring oil in the leper purification ritual of Leviticus 14. All five occurrences specify oil: Lev 14:10 and 14:21 prescribe 'one log of oil' as part of the offering; 14:12 presents it as a wave offering; 14:15 and 14:24 describe the priest pouring from the log into his palm for anointing. Spanish 'el log de' and German 'log von' treat it as a loanword, while French similarly retains 'log'—all reflecting that this technical term resists translation into native vocabulary.
