An adjective used exclusively in construct form, meaning 'born of' or 'native to' a particular household or lineage. In the Patriarchal narratives it describes slaves born within Abraham's own household, distinguished from those purchased with money (Gen 14:14; 17:12–13, 23, 27; Lev 22:11). Elsewhere it identifies descendants of particular groups — the sons of the Rephaim giants in the Philistine wars (2 Sam 21:16, 18; 1 Chr 20:4) and the children of Anak in the conquest narrative (Num 13:22, 28; Josh 15:14). Spanish 'nacidos/descendientes' and French 'descendants' capture the birth-lineage core.
