Strength, force, power; the might associated with prophetic compulsion or royal authority becoming established.
A noun expressing forceful strength, derived from the verbal root חזק ('to be strong'). It carries two distinct flavors in Scripture: the overwhelming compulsion of God's hand upon a prophet, and the consolidating power of a king at the height of his reign. Isaiah 8:11 speaks of the LORD's hand gripping the prophet בְּחֶזְקַת הַיָּד — with forceful strength — warning him not to follow the people's fear. In Chronicles and Daniel, it describes the moment a king's power is fully established, often just before a fateful turn toward pride.
