Hur — a personal name borne by Moses' companion, a Judahite ancestor of Bezalel, and others
The name Hur (חוּר, possibly meaning 'white' or 'noble') belongs to several figures, most memorably the man who, alongside Aaron, held up Moses' weary hands during the battle against Amalek at Rephidim (Exod 17:10, 12) and was left in charge when Moses ascended Sinai (Exod 24:14). A Judahite named Hur was the grandfather of Bezalel, the master craftsman of the tabernacle (Exod 31:2; 35:30; 38:22; 1 Chr 2:19–20). Other bearers include a Midianite king slain by Israel (Num 31:8; Josh 13:21) and a post-exilic leader who repaired Jerusalem's wall (Neh 3:9).
