reeling, terror (the state of staggering or being overcome with fear)
A rare term denoting reeling or the state of being overwhelmed with terror, appearing in Isaiah's oracle against Egypt. Judah will become to Egypt 'a reeling'—a source of terror so profound it causes staggering like drunkenness. The Aramaic loan-word may connect to festival excitement or the circular motion of reeling. Isaiah's image is powerful: the mere mention of Judah's land will make Egypt tremble and reel in fear.

Senses
1. sense 1 A state of reeling or staggering terror. Isaiah 19:17 prophesies that Judah will become to Egypt 'a reeling'—the land that once enslaved Israel will now tremble at her name. The parallel verb 'be in dread' confirms this as terror-induced instability. The term may derive from circular motion or festival excitement, here applied metaphorically to the disorientation of overwhelming fear.
