hiding-place, veil, concealment (of divine power)
A poetic term for concealment or veiling, appearing only in Habakkuk's theophany where God's power is described as having 'its hiding-place' or 'veiling.' The word evokes both the concealment of divine glory and the envelope of radiance that simultaneously reveals and obscures God's presence. Spanish 'escondedero' (hiding-place) and the verb 'to hide' in other languages point to the paradox of divine self-revelation: God's power is both manifest and mysteriously hidden.
