Hor -- a mountain on the border of Edom where Aaron died and was buried
Hor (hor) is a proper place name designating Mount Hor (hor hahar, lit. 'Hor the mountain'), a peak on the border of Edom where Aaron was stripped of his priestly garments, which were transferred to Eleazar, and where he died (Num 20:22-29). A second Hor may appear at Numbers 34:7-8 as a northern boundary marker of the promised land. All twelve occurrences function as a geographic proper noun, with prepositional variations (to, from, at) reflecting syntax rather than semantics. Every target language preserves the name: English Hor, Spanish Hor, French Hor, German Hor.

Senses
1. Hor (proper name, mountain/place) The proper geographic name Hor, referring primarily to Mount Hor on Edom's border, the site of Aaron's death and the priestly succession to Eleazar (Num 20:22-29; 33:37-41), and possibly a second peak on the northern boundary of Canaan (Num 34:7-8). The accompanying prepositional phrases are syntactic, not semantic. Universal transliteration across languages -- English, Spanish, French, German, Arabic, Korean -- confirms its status as an irreducible proper noun. 12×
