the opposite, contrary, perversity
This noun denotes the opposite or contrary, or perversity—a complete reversal of the expected. Ezekiel 16:34 uses it twice in God's accusation against Jerusalem for her spiritual prostitution: 'The opposite occurred in you from other women...you became the opposite.' Instead of being paid, she paid her lovers—a perverse inversion of normal prostitution. Isaiah 29:16 employs it as an exclamation: 'Oh, your perversity!'—condemning Israel's backwards thinking that treats the potter as clay. Both uses emphasize radical reversal or distortion.

Senses
1. sense 1 The glosses ('opposite, contrary, contrario, perversity') emphasize reversal. Ezekiel 16:34 repeats the word: Jerusalem is 'the opposite of [other] women' and 'you became the opposite'—she reversed normal prostitution by paying instead of being paid, illustrating her perverse eagerness for idolatry. Isaiah 29:16 cries 'your perversity!'—denouncing those who reverse creator and creature, treating God as their product rather than themselves as his. Both passages use the word to condemn fundamental inversions of proper order.
