V-Qal-Prtcpl-ms  |  5× in 1 sense
to come to an end, cease; to complete, bring to fulfillment
A poetic verb found exclusively in the Psalms, used both intransitively to describe things ceasing or coming to an end, and transitively to describe God completing or accomplishing purposes on behalf of his people. In Psalm 12:1 it parallels the rare verb pasas (fail), lamenting the disappearance of the faithful. In Psalm 138:8 it expresses confident trust that the LORD will bring to completion what concerns the psalmist. The Aramaic cognate gemar became the standard term for completing study in later rabbinic usage.

Senses
1. sense 1 To come to an end, cease, be no more. Used intransitively in lament and rhetorical questions about faithfulness and steadfast love disappearing. Spanish 'ha cesado' and English 'has ceased' confirm the intransitive force. Seen in Ps 7:9, Ps 12:1, and Ps 77:8, where it parallels terms like 'apes (be gone) and pasas (vanish).
