1. not (poetic negation) — Poetic and archaic adverb of negation, functioning as an elevated synonym of לֹא ('not'). Found almost exclusively in poetry: extensively in the Psalms (Ps 10:4, 6, 11, 15, 18; 16:2, 4, 8; 17:3, 5; 21:2, 7; 32:9; 57:9; 73:1; 108:3; 119:22; 149:7 and many more), in Job (41:23), Proverbs (19:23), Isaiah (14:21; 26:14, 18; 33:20; 40:24; 43:17; 44:8-9; 56:3), Hosea (9:16), and 1 Chronicles 16:30. Sometimes carries modal nuances: 'lest' in Ps 32:9 and Isa 14:21, purposive negation. The auto-split clusters labeled 'among the' and 'on the' in Ps 57:9 and 149:7 appear to be translation artifacts where the negation was mistranslated or combined with adjacent prepositions. All 69 occurrences represent the single Hebrew negation particle בַּל. Multilingual glosses uniformly render it as negation: Arabic لا (no), German nicht (not), Korean 아니 (not), Hindi नहीं (not), Spanish no (not), French ne...pas (not). 72×
