that, which, who; relative particle connecting clauses and introducing relative statements
This shortened relative particle (abbreviated from the longer form) introduces relative clauses and appears frequently in later biblical books, especially Ecclesiastes and Song of Songs. It serves the same function as the more common longer relative—introducing clauses that describe or identify a noun. Where earlier Hebrew might say 'the man who came,' later texts prefer this abbreviated form. The particle shows language evolution within Scripture, as spoken Hebrew increasingly favored shorter forms. Its presence helps scholars identify later composition dates.
