A diminutive of chora ('region, country') that in practice carries no diminutive force, denoting anything from a named geographic spot to a substantial landed estate. In the Passion narratives, Gethsemane and Golgotha are each called a chorion—'a place called Gethsemane' (Matt 26:36; Mark 14:32)—emphasizing the locality itself. In Acts, the same word shifts decisively toward property: Judas's 'Field of Blood' (Acts 1:18–19), Ananias and Sapphira's land (Acts 5:3, 8), and estates sold by early believers (Acts 4:34). Spanish mirrors this split precisely: 'lugar' for the geographic sense versus 'campo/terreno' for the property sense.
