Grown together, united by natural growth; innate, congenital
United by growth, naturally joined together. Paul writes in Romans 6:5 that 'if we have become united with him in the likeness of his death, we shall also be in the likeness of his resurrection.' The word suggests organic unity, like plants grafted together that grow into one. It can mean congenital or innate in medical contexts, but Paul uses it for mystical union with Christ. Baptism into Christ's death creates a living connection: believers grow together with Christ through participation in his death and resurrection pattern.

Senses
1. sense 1 Believers' organic union with Christ through baptismal identification with his death and resurrection. The metaphor is botanical or biological: a vital, growing connection, not mere legal status. Spanish 'unidos' (united), German 'mitverwachsen' (grown together with), French 'planté ensemble' (planted together) all suggest living union. Paul's point is that Christian life flows from grafted-in participation in Christ's death-and-life pattern, making resurrection inevitable for those united to the risen one.
