gentle, mild, meek; describing a calm, non-aggressive temperament or disposition in people or things
This adjective, appearing as πρᾶος in Attic prose and πρᾱΰς in epic poetry, describes someone who is gentle, mild, or meek in temperament. Ancient Greek writers contrasted it with harshness, anger, or wildness, making it a virtue in both classical ethics and biblical usage. The New Testament preserves this sense in describing blessed character traits. In the Septuagint and Christian writings, it took on moral significance as a quality of humble restraint and patient endurance rather than weakness or passivity.
