1. shepherd, pastor — One who tends and guards a flock of sheep; used both literally of those keeping watch over animals (Lk 2:8,15,18,20) and figuratively of spiritual leaders who guide and protect God's people (Eph 4:11), and supremely of Christ as the Good Shepherd (Jn 10:2,11-12,14,16; Heb 13:20; 1 Pet 2:25). All number forms (singular and plural, all cases) convey the same concept. Translations are consistent: eng 'shepherd/shepherds,' spa 'pastor/pastores,' arb راعٍ/رُعَاةُ (ra'in/ru'at, herder/herders), hin चरवाहा/चरवाहे (charvaha, one who grazes livestock), kor 목자/목자들 (mokja, shepherd), swa 'mchungaji/wachungaji' (keeper of the flock). 18×
