Preparation (day before Sabbath/feast)

Senses
1. Preparation (day before Sabbath/feast) The day of preparation before the Sabbath or a major Jewish festival, specifically the Friday before the Sabbath when all work and food preparation had to be completed. All six NT occurrences refer to the day Jesus was crucified — the Preparation day (Matt 27:62; Mark 15:42; Luke 23:54; John 19:14, 31, 42). Multilingual evidence is uniform: Spanish 'Preparación/de preparación', Hindi 'तैयारी का दिन/तैयारी का', Arabic 'يَوْمَ الاِسْتِعْدَادِ/الاِسْتِعْدَادِ', Korean '예비일/준비일의', Swahili 'Maandalio/Ijumaa' (where Swahili notably uses 'Ijumaa' = Friday for the genitive, confirming the day-of-week referent). The nominative/accusative (S74048) and genitive (S74050) forms are case inflections of one sense — the Preparation day.
