horion -- region, border, boundary; the territorial limits or district of a place
The neuter noun horion (usually plural horia) denotes a geographical boundary, border region, or defined territory. In classical Greek it served as the diminutive of horos ('boundary marker'), though by the Koine period it had lost any diminutive force. All twelve New Testament occurrences use it spatially to identify the region through which Jesus moves: the borders of Judea (Matt 19:1), the districts of Tyre and Sidon (Matt 15:22; Mark 7:24, 31), the region of the Gadarenes (Matt 8:34; Mark 5:17). It quietly maps the geography of Jesus' ministry, showing his movement across ethnic and territorial boundaries. Spanish regiones/limites, French frontiere, and German Gebiet all point to one undifferentiated spatial sense.
