mill-house, place where grain is ground; also metaphorical for laborious work
The μυλών is a mill-house where grain is ground into flour. The word appears in contexts of manual labor and punishment: to condemn a slave 'to the mill' meant sentencing them to grueling work grinding grain. One ancient wit called triremes 'painted mills,' presumably commenting on the repetitive, exhausting labor of rowing. The mill-house represents both necessary domestic production and harsh servile toil.
