anyone, anything (indefinite, = μηδείς in old/Cretan Greek); in questions, imperatives, wishes, after fear/doubt
The old Greek and Cretan form for μηδείς ('no one'), this indefinite pronoun appears in Homer and Cretan inscriptions. As an adverb (μή τι), it accompanies imperatives and optative wishes. After verbs of fear or doubt, it introduces apprehensive clauses. In direct questions, μή τί σοι δοκῶ means 'do I seem to you...?' (expecting 'no'). The phrase μή τί γε means 'let alone' or 'much less,' expressing strong denial: 'not even worthy to be a soldier, let alone a commander of others.'
