A share, portion, or allotted part; also a district or region; used of one's lot in an inheritance or relationship.
Denotes a portion that has been apportioned or belongs to someone by right. Mary chose the good 'portion' (Luke 10:42); believers share in the 'inheritance' of the saints in light (Col 1:12). It can also mean a geographical district, as in Acts 16:12 describing Philippi as a leading city of that 'district' of Macedonia. Spanish uses both 'parte' and 'porción,' reflecting the dual sense of allocated share and regional division. Paul asks what 'portion' a believer has with an unbeliever (2 Cor 6:15), extending the word into relational partnership.
