λύστρα G3082
Lystra, a city in the Roman province of Lycaonia in Asia Minor, associated with Paul's missionary journeys.
Lystra was a small Roman colony in the region of Lycaonia, significant in the book of Acts as a repeated stop on Paul's missionary travels. It was there that Paul healed a man crippled from birth and was mistakenly worshiped as Hermes (Acts 14:8-18), and later stoned nearly to death. Timothy, Paul's trusted coworker, was from Lystra (Acts 16:1-2), making the city a personal landmark in the apostle's ministry. Paul recalls his sufferings there in 2 Timothy 3:11 as testimony to God's deliverance.
Senses
1. Lystra — The proper name of a city in Lycaonia, a region of south-central Asia Minor (modern Turkey). Paul and Barnabas fled there from Iconium (Acts 14:6), and it became a key location in Paul's first and second missionary journeys. The city is notable as the site of a miraculous healing and subsequent near-fatal stoning of Paul (Acts 14:8-19), and as the hometown of Timothy (Acts 16:1-2). The name appears with some grammatical variation in Greek (both feminine singular and neuter plural forms), reflected in the diverse transliterations across languages: Spanish 'Listra,' French 'Lystre,' German and English 'Lystra.' 6×
